26.4.13

Friday, April 26

Just a quick note to let you know that the students have earned an ice cream party for getting all their homework done all week!!! All 24 all week!!! It is quite an achievement. Mrs. Palha has supplied the ice cream and I was in charge of toppings, unfortunately, I was away this afternoon and did not get back in time to serve the treats.

We will be having the celebration on Monday and students are encouraged to bring a bowl, spoon and banana (optional). Thanks for understanding!

***Book report is due on Tuesday!

***Mini- province project is due Thursday!
(We've been working on this in class and during computers for three weeks now,
so they should be really close to completion!)

Have a great weekend!

FYI: 39 more school days!!!!

When we are missing more than half our class, Mrs. Tyrrell and I combine our classes so that we can do some activities with together. This will only happen a few more times, then we will be back to our regular schedules. Thank you for your understanding.

Tomorrow is JEANS DAY. The money collected will be donated to the Holy Childhood Association.

April 16, 2013

It seems as if we are riding a roller coaster... First term is the uphill climb, getting to know each other, new routines, new expectations, learning curve and lots of getting used to being back to school. The second term is when we coast, things are busy but good we get a break from school and we learn a lot... But now, we are in the final months of the third term... and it is fast, and the end is near... hang on and enjoy the ride!

If your child is in track, please ensure that they are on top of their assignments. For the track schedule, please check the school calendar and Mr. Kaplonski's blog. This week is Tuesday and Thursday practices.

Homework:
1. Religion journal-- St. Bernadette
2. ABC book-- W (Wilbur) and B (barn)
3. Math w/s
4. Sp Unit 27 WP

Don't forget that the book report for this month is due on April 31! This assignment was given at the beginning of the month.

We are also doing an in-class project on provinces. Your child has the option to add to their project by doing something at home to enhance this. If they are interested in this option, please have them see me.

8.4.13

April showers....

... bring May flowers! I sure hope that we get tons of flowers in return for the rainy weather we are getting! I don't know about you, but I thought that the weather during our long Easter weekend was the beginning of beautiful weather! I'm sure that by the time Pentecost comes, we will have sunshine! We discussed how Easter Sunday is just the beginning of Easter season, which lasts for 50 days (!) ending with Pentecost.

In Reading, we started our new novel study, Charlotte's Web. Each student has a copy to borrow, but please do not read ahead. We just started Chapter 1 today.

In Math, we started multiplication. This week we will focus on the relationship between addition and multiplication. For example:

2 x 5 is the same as 2+2+2+2+2

I am also sending home flashcards tomorrow to practice for our Math Minutes. Next week we will begin with facts of x1, x2 and x0.

Track season begins! Please ensure that if your child is going to Track events during school time, that they are able to catch up with the work missed.
