Dec 17

Pajama day is definitely one of my most favourite days of the year! We have had a lot of fun eating popcorn and candy and watching movies all day! The students did such a great job during the performances yesterday, that they deserved the treat day!

THANK YOU so much for all the generous donations for the Christmas hamper. We have filled over THREE hampers! Tomorrow is the final day if you have anything to add!

Tomorrow is our book exchange. If you have not sent a book yet, it's not too late!

I would like to also say a BIG THANK YOU for all the well wishes and thoughtful gifts. I am grateful to be part of such a wonderful class. These students are the best gift and I am happy to get to teach them this year. May the Christmas season be filled with blessings and the new year bring you and your family lots of joy.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Love, Mrs. Fonseca

BOOK GIFT EXCHANGE:
The students have been asking if we are going to do a Secret Santa gift exchange. Instead of buying presents for a particular person, I would like to have a book exchange. Please wrap a new or gently used book (picture book or novel that are grade appropriate) and send it with you child by WED. DEC. 17. We will play a game to get books randomly.

Homework:
1. Ch 5 questions & vocab (only the front of page one and the back of page two)
2. colouring sheet (top secret!)

Please ensure your child is in full uniform for Mass tomorrow, especially if they have a part in Mass.

9.12.14

Dec 9

Please check your children's uniform! If you find them quite muddy please send an extra set of clothes in their backpacks so that they are not uncomfortable in the afternoon. This is for emergency purposes only and they will not be expected to change every day!

Homework:
1. Math w/s
2. Ch 3 questions & vocab
3. Create a toy

Please sign the spelling tests and various tests that have gone home. Corrections are not necessary.

Dec 8

Just a reminder that we are collecting good and presents for a family of five with 3 children (10 year old boy, 6 year old and thirteen year old girls).

We already have some contributions (THANKS!) that include clothes for the 6 yo and a toy for the 10 yo boy. We would love to have gifts for all the members. I will be in charge of wrapping the gifts, so don't worry about that. Gift cards and non-perishable foods would also be appreciated, as we do not know any more information about them.

NO SPELLING this week. (I will give an assessment/review on Friday, but no words to study). There won't be spelling next week either! (Woohoo!) Spelling test books will be sent home tomorrow to get signed! Along with some tests done the last few weeks! I apologize, as we have been busy creating a top secret mission project!

It is our Mass this week, so some students have Mass parts. Please practice readings with them (Bella, Laura, Lauren, Mateo, Jackson, Hailey, Grace). Gift bearers are Julia and Julian. Anyone who has not had a part will have one in the next Mass, probably end of February.

Homework:
1. Math w/s (three digit adding with regrouping)
2. Ch 2 questions from Best Christmas Pageant Ever
3. CC due Thurs (they know what this is! super top secret mission! :)

Dec. 3

Thank you so much to all the parent drivers and volunteers who helped to make our field trip a success. It was wonderful to see the student's react to what we have been learning about all term. Today we talked about whether or not we would like to live in that era and some of our students actually said they would like to be pioneers!

If you are interested in checking out the Burnaby Village Museum, there is free admission until January for people to see the Christmas lights. I encourage you to check it out with your family!

A notice went home today about the family that our class is filling a Christmas hamper for. It is a family of five-- 2 adults, 3 kids (ten year old boy, two girls aged 6 and 13). We are looking for non-perishable food, gift cards or gifts.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CAR SEATS:
It is VERY IMPORTANT to adhere to the laws to keep the children safe during our field trip. We need to have boosters seats dropped off with your child if you are not driving your own child.

More than 18 kg (40 lbs) and under nine years old or under 145 cm (4'9") tall

Use a booster seat until your child is at least nine years old or 145 cm (4'9") tall.

Ideal placement

  • Place in the back seat.
  • Booster seats are designed to be used with a lap/shoulder belt. Do not use a booster seat with only a lap belt.
  • Position lap belt low over hip bones and shoulder belt over shoulder and in front of chest.

Tomorrow is our field trip to Burnaby Village Museum. Just a few reminders about the day:
·        We are leaving at 9 am. Please try to be on time. If the class is gone when your child arrives, please check in with the office. They will spend the day in another classroom.
·        Students are encouraged to dress in Pioneer style clothing.
-        Boys:  Pants (no denim), long sleeve shirts, (t-shirts ok), suspenders (optional)
-        Girls: Long skirts or long dresses (no pants for girls)
-        Students are also welcome to wear their full uniform
-        They can carry their belongings in rucksacks! (Cloth tied to a long stick) Backpacks are fine!
-        We are outside for a LARGE part of the day as we move between exhibits. Please ensure your child is dressed for the outdoors AND everything is labelled!

·        There is a gift shop available. Students can bring some spending money, but they are in charge of their money. Please do not send more than $20.
·        Students are allowed to bring their own cameras, but please do not send your expensive family ones, as they are in charge of their own belongings, just like their cash!
·        We are bringing our own lunches as we are assigned to a lunchroom. Food is not sold at the lunch room, but there is a cafeteria where they can purchase hot chocolate and small snacks. They can go there at their leader’s supervision.
·        Students are placed in groups along with the drivers. Groups are mixed into larger groups as we explore the grounds. Please check on the back to see who your child is driving with/or who you are driving.
·        We will be leaving the museum at 1:30 to return to school. Students will be dismissed from class.

We have been learning about pioneers all term and are so excited to be seeing it first hand!
