24.2.15

February 23

Tomorrow is Anti-bullying day (though, everyday should really be anti-bullying day!) and it is a non-uniform day at school. We are encouraging students to design their own anti-bullying shirt, but it is optional. It is also hot lunch!

One of the treats that have been very popular in my past classes have been ice cream sundae parties. The class earns it by getting 5 days (in a month, not row!!!) of EVERYONE getting their homework done. In the past, I've had classes earn this on a monthly basis! This year, we have only gotten three days of everyone handing in the homework (since September!). They have the rest of the week to earn the other two. IF we do not earn it this week, starting in March, I will take note of students who finish their work. If they do so for two weeks leading up to spring break, they will earn the ice cream for themselves. It will be a personal reward instead of a class reward. It's just not fair to the students who have been consistent in handing in work, that they have not earned their prizes.

This is a very busy couple of weeks, as we wrap up our current units for the term. I am giving them work time in class so that it can lessen the amount of work they have to do at home, as they prepare their poems and projects. Please take note of the important due dates!

17.2.15

Feb. 17

"Lent is a special time when you can share the concepts of prayer and giving with your children.  Take family time each day to offer devotional prayers.  Consider as a family how you might help others in need by giving of your time or resources.  Even very young children can understand and will enjoy participating in the process.  As a mother, carve out time in your day for your own special prayer time.  This may involve early rising or time spent away from a favorite hobby or activity." -- catholicmom.com

Today we ate pancakes for snack, courtesy of The Knights of Columbus, to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. Tomorrow we will have an Ash Wednesday Mass at 9:00 to help us start our Lenten journey. We ask that students bring a simple lunch free of treats and meat if possible. We will not be providing a bun lunch this year.

Please check the last blog post for important dates coming up. All re-registration papers are due tomorrow. Your child is also bringing home their student led times. If your third grader is the oldest, they also have the times for younger siblings.
