March 30

Holy Week is upon us. This week we are focusing on praying for others and in making sure that we stay true to our Lenten promises (Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving). Holy Thursday will be a day of prayer and reflection. In the morning, we will be going through the Stations of the Cross and in the afternoon, we will have a K-3 retreat.

Tomorrow, we will have a special speech arts assembly at 10:45. You are welcome to join us. Christopher and Laura will be representing our class. Great job to all who participated!

Stations of the Cross quiz in on Thursday, April 9. (The study sheet was handed out last Monday... it's yellow in colour!) We are also doing a mini book to help us study.

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Baniqued to our class. She is our new SEA and will be in Grade Three full time until the end of the school year! YAY!

Please ensure that your child had their costume (toga) NEXT WEEK. We will be taking class photos on Tuesday, Dress rehearsal is on Wednesday and Thursday is the show... Costumes must be at school on all three days.

With the rainy season upon us (We knew it was coming! We were spoiled all winter!), we have to be prepared for the elements. If it is raining hard, a bell with ring to let students in early in the morning. If it is not raining and the bell does not ring early, students are expected to stay outside. I will also remind students to stay off the very wet fields during outside recess. (It's like a Tide commercial waiting to happen!)


Tomorrow, I will be doing some reading assessments with the class to help up get started (again!) with reading groups.

Welcome back! I hope you are all ready for third term! This has always been my favourite term, as the topics we cover are fun and routines and expectations have long been established, so we just get on with the learning! Here are some of the new topics we will be starting this week:

Religion: Stations of the Cross, Easter season up to Pentecost (April-May),
              I'm a Gift From God (May-June)
LA: Reading-- Novel study and literature circles
LA: Writing-- paragraph writing (using visualizing, inferring, and transforming)
Math: multiplication, time, measurement
Science: Plant life and Insects
Socials: The provinces of Canada

Important events this week:
- Wednesday is Green Day, in honour of St. Patrick's day next week. Students are allowed to wear green for non-uniform day.
- Friday is report card day and also our class mass. Mass parts will be given tomorrow.

Primary Speech Arts tomorrow. Poetry starts at 9:10 and Bible readings at 10:45

Thank you to all the parents (and grandparents!) who came today to help at skating today! The kids had a wonderful time!

Tomorrow is a Food Bank Mass. Next week will be our class Mass. Mass parts will be given on Monday. Any students who have not had a part yet, will be given some part (reading or non).

We are leaving the school to walk to the rink at 9:45 tomorrow. We are bringing a small snack with us to eat when we get there, before going on the ice. Skating is from 10:30-11:30 and we will back to school by noon. DO NOT FORGET HELMETS AND MITTENS/GLOVES! It is MANDATORY to get on the ice.

Congratulations to our class representatives for Speech Arts. Everyone did such a wonderful job and I am so proud of each of them for practicing and memorizing a poem!

Hello March! This is like the finish line before spring break with the winding down of term two units. Don't forget that we have a continents and oceans test on Friday, March 6! A study sheet went home last week.

Thursday is skating day. Students need to wear their uniform to school, but are allowed to bring a change of clothes for skating (or snowpants). Please ensure your child has GLOVES OR MITTS and a HELMET! We will leave at 9:45 am and bring a SMALL snack to eat after skaing.
