Class Expectations

Welcome To Your Grade Two/ Three Adventures
2016-2017: Mrs. Fonseca
This is a new year, with new adventures and lots of learning. This handbook will help you understand what the expectations are this year. The learning will come easier if we are all on the same page. I am very excited to share the classroom with you and hope that we all gain something from each other this year. This handbook should be placed in your Health and Career duo tang, so that it is handy when you need to refer to it.
Everyone has an important role in the classroom.

Behaviour: Our classroom works best when everyone respects each other. This means I respect you and your belongings, you respect me and you respect your classmates and their property. You are expected to be a polite, courteous and responsible citizen, who is helpful to everyone in the school. We will write the classroom rules together and sign your name to show that you are an important part of the class. They will be posted in the room so that you are aware of them at all times.

The Good: When you are doing your best and are following the rules, it will be recognized.  There will be treats (Fonseca bucks, stickers, food, class celebrations and free time)!!! When we are on track and do our work, then we have time to celebrate our achievements and accomplishments.

The Not-So-Good: When a student is acting inappropriately, they will be given warnings and then have a consequence. The first time I call on a student for behaving inappropriately, they will have to write their name on the board. Each time after that, they will have to put a checkmark. Each checkmark is time that they owe me doing various tasks in the classroom. When the offence is really serious, like harming someone with words/actions, then they are sent to see Mr. Borkowski.

Your Work:
Good habits are important! These expectations will help you succeed, not just this year, but hopefully in the years to come.
1.       Write in pencil only and ensure that it has a nice sharp point.
2.     Your name appears on the left hand margin, with JMJ written underneath.
3.    The date is on the right.
4.    If you have a page number to write down, that goes under the date.
5.    The title goes in the centre, underlined in red pen or pencil crayon with a ruler.
6.    If you make a mistake, use an eraser. Do not try and scribble it out.
7.     When writing rough drafts, double space.
8.    When handwriting good copies, single space. When typing good copies, use size 12 or 14 font.
9.     When marking your work or other people’s work, please use red ink and mark neatly.
10. Absolutely NO doodling on any pages or on duo tang covers.

Homework:
Your homework is work that is not finished in class. I will always give class time for   you to do the work after giving an assignment. You are looking at approximately thirty-forty minutes of homework Monday to Thursdays. I will not assign classwork to be due on Monday mornings, except for signing of planners or any big projects that you choose to do with your parents on the weekend. IF YOU HAVE ANY LATE HOMEWORK THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HANDED IN, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COMPLETE IT AND HAND IT IN.
Each homework assignment is important and will be given a mark or checked for completion. Homework will be checked or collected first thing in the morning. If you did not bring in all your homework that is due, you must write your name and offence in the homework log. Items in the homework log can be discussed with your parents. Consistently handing in late assignments means that you are not “Fully Meeting” the requirement of handing in your work in a timely manner (Health and Career learning outcome).
Each of you is required to have a planner. You must write down your homework and any due dates in your planners. Parents must sign your planners every day.

Tests & Quizzes:
Spelling and Math quizzes will be given every Friday. If you do your homework, you will be prepared for the tests and quizzes. You will get lots of time to study for bigger quizzes and tests. Each test will be brought home to be signed and returned to school.

Grades & Marks:
Grades are earned, not given. You are expected to work hard to get good grades. It is your task to get yourself to the grade you wish to achieve. You will be given expectations for big assignments. If you ever have any questions on expectations for your assignments,
please ask, ask ASK!

This will be a fun and exciting year with lots of learning and new topics to be covered! There will be friendships formed in class. There will be laughter and maybe some tears, but it is all part of your learning adventure. Remember that as your guide on this part of your learning adventure, I will be available for any questions, comments, or concerns you may have!

                                                Let the FUN begin!
